FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
OLIVE-HARVEY COLLEGE PRESENTS “THE RAW SEASON”
Wednesday, January 25, 2006—Chicago--“The Raw Season” plays in Bruce Cherry Theater, February 8-10
Olive Harvey College, presents “The Raw Season”--the magical and oddly serene story of a young couple
surviving a season of continuous global rain. Though this contemporary interpretation of Noah’s Ark lacks the
overt religious implications of a “Bible Story,” it is infused with a spirit of faith and community building. A student
produced montage of news footage from recent flood disasters layers the play with contemporary significance. The
play is free, but donations for the American Red Cross and Salvation Army flood relief programs will be solicited.
Described by Louisville Kentucky’s Juneteenth Legacy Theater as “in the tradition of Oscar Wilde,” “The Raw
Season” approaches the story of Noah’s Ark philosophically, bestowing upon its protagonists the virtues of industry
and generosity, and placing them in contest with an awesome natural phenomenon. “The Raw Season” was
workshopped in Sandy Shinner’s 5 on 6 Writer’s Workshop at Regional Tony Award Winning Victory Gardens
Theatre. The cast is comprised of Olive-Harvey students and local community members, and will be hosted by
recording artist Menijah Stokes. A question and answer session with the cast, crew and playwright will follow each
performance.
In honor of Black History Month, Olive Harvey’s performing arts club, OH SHOPP, in collaboration with the English
Department, presents “The Raw Season.” The play runs Wednesday and Thursday, February 8th & 9th at 2:00
pm and Friday, February 10th at 7:00 pm.
